                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, This year marks the 100th year in which women have
    1-2  been elected to represent the interests of their fellow citizens at
    1-3  the statewide level and this significant milestone in the evolution
    1-4  of women's participation in governmental affairs is indeed
    1-5  deserving of special commemoration; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, To this end, the National Foundation for Women
    1-7  Legislators, Inc., is coordinating state, regional, and national
    1-8  celebrations to both increase public awareness of the historical
    1-9  contributions of women in this critical area of public service and
   1-10  to pay tribute to current and former women legislators who have
   1-11  built on the outstanding tradition of public service established by
   1-12  their forebears as America's true timeless pioneers; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, One century ago, Clara Cressingham, Carrie C. Holly,
   1-14  and Frances S.  Klock of Colorado became the first women to be
   1-15  elected to statewide office as legislators, and their monumental
   1-16  achievement is even more remarkable in light of the fact that it
   1-17  occurred a full quarter century before the ratification of the 19th
   1-18  Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing women the right to
   1-19  vote; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Today, on this historic occasion, the members of the
   1-21  74th Legislature are proud to commend our female legislative
   1-22  colleagues, whose leadership, wisdom, and dedication have greatly
   1-23  contributed to the continued vitality and prosperity of this state;
   1-24  now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-2  hereby recognize the 100th Year Celebration of Women in State
    2-3  Legislatures and honor the following members for their vital
    2-4  service to the citizens of this state:  Representatives Susan
    2-5  Combs, Karyne Jones Conley, Debra Danburg, Diana Davila, Yvonne
    2-6  Davis, Dianne White Delisi, Mary Denny, Dawnna M. Dukes, Harryette
    2-7  Ehrhardt, Jessica Farrar, Helen Giddings, Patricia Gray, Sherri
    2-8  Greenberg, Peggy Hamric, Judy Hawley, Christine Hernandez, Vilma
    2-9  Luna, Nancy McDonald, Nancy Moffat, Anna Mowery, Carolyn Park, Irma
   2-10  Rangel, Elvira Reyna, Sylvia Romo, Barbara Rusling, Senfronia
   2-11  Thompson, Leticia Van de Putte, Arlene Wohlgemuth, and Beverly
   2-12  Woolley and Senators Jane Nelson, Peggy Rosson, Florence Shapiro,
   2-13  and Judith Zaffirini; and, be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-15  prepared for these members and for the National Foundation for
   2-16  Women Legislators, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the
   2-17  Legislature of the State of Texas.
