1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 47 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes 1-3 pride in recognizing one of its most respected members, 1-4 the Honorable Eddie Lucio, Jr., on the joyous occasion of 1-5 his 53rd birthday, January 20, 1999; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Brownsville, Texas, on January 20, 1946, 1-7 Eddie Lucio began his political career in 1971 when he became the 1-8 youngest county treasurer ever to be elected in Cameron County; 1-9 he was later elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1985, 1-10 where he served from 1986 until his election to the Texas Senate in 1-11 1990; and 1-12 WHEREAS, An outstanding legislator and an exemplary gentleman, 1-13 Eddie Lucio has received numerous accolades for his 13 years of 1-14 distinguished public service in the Texas Legislature; and 1-15 WHEREAS, In 1991, he was recognized as the South Texas Tort 1-16 Reformer of the Year by the Texas Civil Justice League; in 1993, 1-17 he received the Government Advocate Award in Region III from the 1-18 United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and was named the 1-19 State Senator of the Year by the Combined Law Enforcement 1-20 Associations of Texas; and 1-21 WHEREAS, He has also been honored for his exceptional 1-22 legislative service by the members of the Texas Public Employees 1-23 Association, who awarded him the Senator John A.
