R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Norma Chavez,
  is marking an important milestone in her life on May 22, 2009, when
  she graduates from The University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, This accomplishment comes as a result of the
  determined resolve that Representative Chavez has shown in
  completing her undergraduate education and the hard work she has
  put in to make that dream a reality; and
         WHEREAS, She had initially attended college beginning in 1978
  but suspended her studies at UT in 1983; Ms. Chavez went on to prove
  her abilities in many endeavors, including her distinguished
  service in the Texas House of Representatives since 1997, but she
  has remained dedicated to completing her degree; and
         WHEREAS, In the fall of 2006, Representative Chavez resumed
  her coursework at UT, balancing her studies with her many other
  responsibilities as a public servant and businessperson; now,
  nearly three years later, she is realizing her goal of becoming a
  college graduate as she receives a bachelor of arts degree in
  government; and
         WHEREAS, The perseverance that Norma Chavez has exhibited in
  earning her degree makes her an admirable role model for others who
  aspire to further their educations, and she may take justifiable
  pride in becoming a member of the Class of 2009 at UT; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Representative Norma Chavez on her
  graduation from The University of Texas at Austin and commend her on
  her new status as a proud Texas Ex.
