Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Monday, May 24, 2010, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Education and Senate Committee on Higher Education was held.
Senator Shapiro and Senator Zaffirini, as Co-Chairs, shared presiding duties throughout the hearing.
Senator Zaffirini called the Higher Education Committee to order at 9:00 a.m. Senator Zaffirini moved that the Committee stand at ease; without objection, it was so ordered.
At 9:01 a.m. the Senate Committee on Higher Education reconvened.
Senator Shapiro called the Education Committee to order at 9:01 a.m. The following business was transacted:
Senator Shapiro and Senator Zaffirini made opening remarks to the committee.
Senator Shapiro recognized Chancellor Brian McCall as being present and welcomed him.
At 9:08 a.m. a quorum was established for the Senate Committee on Higher Education. Senator Patrick moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearing held on April 26, 2010; without objection, it was so ordered.
The Co-Chairs called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony on the following charge: Review dual credit courses including the cost of delivery, funding mechanisms, and possibility of a statewide dual credit system. This review should also include an examination of the rigor, quality and consistency of dual credit courses. (Joint charge with Senate Higher Education Committee) See attached list.
The chair called persons who registered as public witnesses to provide testimony on the interim committee charge. See attached list.
The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 1:53 p.m. Senator Zaffirini moved that the Senate Committee on Higher Education stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
