SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 229
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of Texas Crime Stoppers are gathering in |
|
|
Austin on February 23, 2015, to participate in Crime Stoppers Day |
|
|
at the State Capitol; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, In response to a soaring crime rate in 1981, the |
|
|
Texas Crime Stoppers Council was established to advise the |
|
|
governor on Crime Stoppers operations; Texas Crime Stoppers |
|
|
provides resources, training, and certification to local |
|
|
programs, and it administers grants from the state-appropriated |
|
|
Crime Stoppers Assistance Fund; moreover, it engages the public |
|
|
to increase awareness and protect communities from crime; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, there are more than 150 certified |
|
|
community and campus Crime Stoppers programs in Texas; their |
|
|
members work tirelessly to ensure the safety of communities and |
|
|
schools, and since 1981, these efforts have helped bring in more |
|
|
than 1.4 million tips from anonymous citizens, resulting in the |
|
|
arrests of over 200,000 suspects and the recovery of more than |
|
|
$1.4 billion in property and narcotics; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through their unyielding commitment to public |
|
|
safety, the members of Texas Crime Stoppers have made a lasting, |
|
|
positive difference in their communities and beyond, and it is |
|
|
indeed fitting to recognize their accomplishments at this time; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |

|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize February 23, 2015, as Crime |
|
|
Stoppers Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those |
|
|
participating sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable |
|
|
event. |
