Pursuant to SCR 9 and HCR 56, a public hearing of the Joint Committee on Cruise Industry Development was held on Thursday, August 25, 2016, in Corpus Christi, TX (see below).

Co-chair Senator Lois Kolkhorst called the meeting to order at 10:03 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst made opening remarks.  Senator Kolkhorst recognized Co-Chair Hunter and other committee members to make opening remarks.

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst laid out the joint committee rules.  Co-Chair Hunter moved their adoption.  There being no objection, the joint committee rules were adopted.

 

The following members arrived after the roll was called:

Representative Wayne Smith

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel one to provide invited testimony on the opinions of local mayors on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel two to provide invited testimony on the opinions of local county judges on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel three to provide invited testimony on the opinions of local port officials and consultants on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel four to provide invited testimony on the opinions of the travel and tourism industry on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel five to provide invited testimony on the opinions of local chambers of commerce on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst called panel six to provide invited testimony on the opinions of local economic development corporations on the development of a cruise terminal in south Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Kolkhorst invited members of the public to testify on the development of a cruise terminal in South Texas (see attached witness list).

 

Co-Chair Hunter made closing remarks and thanked committee staff. Co-Chair Hunter recognized Co-Chair Kolkhorst and other committee members to make closing remarks.

 

There being no further business to come before the committee and upon a motion by Senator Hinojosa, Co-Chair Kolkhorst recessed the hearing at 1:41PM subject to the call of the Co-Chair(s).
