A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to breast-feeding policies of state agency worksites. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 165.003, Health and Safety Code, is |
|
amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: |
|
(c) The department shall annually submit a list of state |
|
agencies that are included on the list of "mother-friendly" |
|
businesses maintained under Subsection (b) to the standing |
|
committees of the house and senate with jurisdiction over the |
|
department. |
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter A, Chapter 165, Health and Safety |
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 165.0035 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 165.0035. STATE AGENCY "MOTHER-FRIENDLY" WORKSITE. |
|
(a) In this section, "state agency" means a board, commission, |
|
office, department, or other agency in the executive, judicial, or |
|
legislative branch of state government, including an institution of |
|
higher education as defined by Section 61.003, Education Code. |
|
(b) To the extent reasonably practicable, each state agency |
|
shall develop a policy supporting the practice of worksite |
|
breast-feeding under Section 165.003 and submit its policy to the |
|
department. |
|
(c) The department shall include each state agency that |
|
develops a policy under this section on the list of |
|
"mother-friendly" businesses under Section 165.003. |
|
SECTION 3. A state agency shall comply with Section |
|
165.0035, Health and Safety Code, as added by this Act, not later |
|
than September 1, 2019. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
