Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Local Government was held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in the Capitol Extension Auditorium, E1.004.

The chair called the meeting to order at 1:10 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: other Senators attending: Senator Kolkhorst.

The Chair laid out the following interim committee charge: Secure Texas Against “Squatters”: Review current laws relating to “squatters” or those claiming adverse possession of property. Make recommendations to streamline the process for the immediate removal of “squatters” and to strengthen the rights of property owners’.

The following witnesses provided invited and public testimony (see attached witness list).

There being no further business, at 5:16 PM Senator Paxton moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
