R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, February 8, 1997, will indeed be a special occasion 1-2 for our distinguished colleague, the Honorable John Longoria, for 1-3 on that date he will mark the passage of his 52nd birthday among 1-4 family and friends; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This fine gentleman was born and raised in Texas, 1-6 which may in part account for the thoughtful manner in which he 1-7 approaches his duties as a public servant; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A graduate of St. Mary's University, Representative 1-9 Longoria holds an undergraduate and a legal degree from that 1-10 respected institution and has drawn on both his education and his 1-11 experience as a former county judge and county commissioner to 1-12 serve the constituents of District 117 with the utmost distinction 1-13 since first winning election to the house in 1992; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Now in his third legislative session, Representative 1-15 Longoria continues to approach each day with dedication and 1-16 commitment to the work at hand, and his colleagues on the House 1-17 State Affairs and State Recreational Resources committees will 1-18 undoubtedly find his contributions vital to addressing the pressing 1-19 matters that come before them this session; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Though his achievements as an officeholder are 1-21 impressive and vast, they are rivaled by his accomplishments as a 1-22 dedicated civic leader; he has long given generously of his time 1-23 and talents to benefit such worthy organizations as the Alamo Area 1-24 Council of Girl Scouts, the Community Action Advisory Board, the 2-1 South San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the Literacy Board, and 2-2 others too numerous to mention; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father as well, John Longoria 2-4 has set an inspiring example of excellence in all aspects of his 2-5 life, and it is fitting that the members of this chamber take a 2-6 moment to honor him on this auspicious occasion; now, therefore, be 2-7 it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable John Longoria on the 2-10 memorable occasion of his 52nd birthday and extend to him warmest 2-11 best wishes for continued good fortune and happiness in the coming 2-12 year; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Mr. Longoria as an expression of highest regard by his 2-15 colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
