         Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Education, met in a  
         public hearing and was called to order by the chair,  
         Representative Hochberg, at 8:07 a.m. 
          
         Present:  Representatives Hochberg; Giddings; Gutierrez; Mowery  
                   (4). 
         Absent:   Delisi (1). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.)

         At 9:46 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was recessed until 11:25 p.m., January 30, 2001. 
          
         The committee reconvened at 11:27 a.m. and was called to order  
         by Representative Hochberg. The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Delisi; Giddings; Gutierrez; Hochberg;  
                   Mowery (5). 
         Absent:   None. 
          
         A quorum was present.

         At 12:36 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was recessed until 1:30 p.m., January 30, 2001. 
          
         The committee reconvened at 1:35 p.m. and was called to order by  
         Representative Hochberg. The roll was answered as follows:
