         Pursuant to a notice posted on September 12, 2002, the House  
         Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on the Teacher  
         Shortage, met jointly with the Public Education Committee in a  
         public hearing and was called to order by Representative  
         Hochberg at 10:15 a.m. 
          
         Present:  Representatives Turner, Sylvester; Gutierrez; Hamric;  
                   Hochberg; McReynolds; Pitts; Smith (7). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Coleman; Delisi; Eiland; Gallego;  
                   Giddings; Moreno, Paul; Mowery (7). 
          
         A quorum was not present. 
          
         Also present:  Rep. Grusendorf 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 1:15 p.m., on the motion of Representative Hochberg and  
         without objection, the meeting was recessed until 1:45 p.m.,  
         September 23, 2002. 
          
         The committee reconvened at 1:45 p.m. and was called to order by  
         Representative Hochberg.

         At 4:01 p.m., on the motion of Representative Hochberg and  
         without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call  
         of the chair.
