         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence  
         was held on Tuesday, February 13, 2001, in the Old Supreme Court  
         Room

         The chair called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.  The  
         following business was transacted:   
          
         The Senate Jurisprudence Committee met in a special joint  
         session with the House Committee on Civil Practices and the  
         House Committee on Judicial Affairs. 
          
         Senator West welcomed those in attendance.  The chair then  
         introduced Chief Justice Tom Phillips of the Supreme Court of  
         Texas.  Chief Justice Phillips addressed the Joint Committees on  
         the State of the Judiciary.  A question and answer period  
         followed. 
          
         There being no further business, at 3:01 p.m. Senator West moved  
         that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the  
         chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
