         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Criminal  
         Justice was held on Wednesday, January 24, 2001, in the Capitol  
         Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

         The chair called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted:   
          
         The Chairman presented the Committee Rules.  There being no  
         discussion, Senator West moved adoption of the Committee Rules.   
         There being no objection, the rules were unanimously adopted. 
          
         Wayne Scott, Executive Director of Texas Department of Criminal  
         Justice gave the members an update of the Connally Unit escape  
         and answered any questions that the members had. 
          
         There being no further business, at 2:34 p.m. Senator Armbrister  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
