Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Education and Senate Committee on Criminal Justice Education was held.

 

Senator Shapiro and Senator Whitmire, as Co-Chairs, shared presiding duties throughout the hearing.

 

Senator Whitmire called the Criminal Justice Committee to order at 9:34 AM.

 

Senator Whitmire and Senator Shapiro made opening remarks to the committee.

 

Senator Patrick called the Education Committee to order at 9:36 AM and Senator Florence Shapiro assumed the chair.  The following business was transacted:

 

The Co-Chairs called the following invited witnesses to provide testimony on Senate Interim Charge #7:  Conduct a comprehensive review of school discipline practices. Specifically, review and make recommendations on:

See attached list.

 

At 10:54 AM the roll was called and a quorum was established for the Senate Committee on Education.

 

At 12:20 PM Senator Whitmire moved that the Committees stand recessed subject to the call of the Co-Chairs. Without objection, it was so ordered.

 

At 2:00 PM Senator Whitmire reconvened the meeting continuing invited and public testimony for both committees.

 

There being no further business, at 4:20 PM Senator Whitmire moved that the Committees stand recessed subject to the call of the Co-chairs. Without objection, it was so ordered.
