Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Subcommittee on Higher Education was held on Friday, May 12, 2023, in the Press Room at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 3:49 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

Senator King moved that the following bills be reported to the full Senate Committee on Education with no recommendation:

 

HB 1361          Shaw (Sp. Eckhardt)

HB 1590          Burns (Sp. West)

HB 3338          Cole (Sp. Johnson)

HB 4997          Kuempel (Sp. Campbell)

 

There being no objection, the motion carried.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 683 in lieu of SB 1350.

 

Senator Creighton moved that HB 683 be reported favorably to the Senate Committee on Education with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Middleton submitted a motion in writing requesting consent to be shown voting aye.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 1636 in lieu of SB 692.

 

Senator Creighton moved that HB 1636 be reported favorably to the Senate Committee on Education with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Middleton submitted a motion in writing requesting consent to be shown voting aye.

 

The chair laid out as a matter of pending business HB 2177 in lieu of SB 2240.

 

Senator Creighton moved that HB 2177 be reported favorably to the Senate Committee on Education with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent. Senator Middleton submitted a motion in writing requesting consent to be shown voting aye.   

 

There being no further business, at 3:53 PM Senator Creighton moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
